Our Proposal
It’s insane to think that we got engaged just a little over a year ago at Acadia National Park. In a year, a lot has changed for us in many ways. We planned our wedding in less than six months, Matt finished his second year of medical school, we’ve moved and life is crazy! We were a little overly nostalgic when we sat and looked at our engagement photos so to relive the joy - we’re sharing the full proposal story!
July 29, 2016
Matt surprised me with a set of roses and a letter on a random Saturday morning. The letter included instructions for an end of the summer adventure. In the letter, it stated that there would be more sets of roses and letters much like the first one – either “letters of endearment” or “instructions pertaining to the adventure”. However, with each set of roses, there would be one less rose which indicated the time until the adventure began.
After I received sets of five, four, three, and two roses with accompanying letters, there was one rose left. The last week of July came and I knew Matt was starting classes on 8/1. On the Thursday before, Matt came to my house, woke me up at 4:30am, and said that we were leaving by 5am. I had no clue what was going on, other than I was scheduled to be in work that day. He told me, “I took care of that. You’re off today and tomorrow!” We got in the car, and he told me we were headed to Maine! Matt had reserved the CUTEST little bed and breakfast right in the middle of town. We had dinner, walked around, and checked out some shops.
The next morning, we had breakfast and then headed to Acadia. Disclaimer: prior to leaving I was a total diva because my hair wasn’t lying right and I hated everything about it! Finally (30 minutes later)...we left!
Acadia is BREATHTAKING. Everything about it is beautiful. The colors, the rocks, the water, the trails, it will leave you in awe. I went off to the side to take some photos and after a few minutes, Matt came over to find me and told me to come with him. He led me to the rocks where the last letter and rose lay. As I was facing the water reading the last letter (taking forever!) the very last sentence read, “I have one last set of instructions for you: Turn around.” and there he was on one knee!
Not only did he propose at one of the most beautiful national parks – he hired the most talented photographer to capture the ENTIRE moment and do our engagement shoot right after the proposal! Also, what’s a proposal without the highlight of the ring?! It was everything and then more! The beautiful, Susie Saltzman custom designed it and her work is a literal dream!
Getting engaged is one of the most exciting seasons and truly a gift - but it can be one of the most overwhelming. Matt and I decided at the beginning that we weren’t going to let anything steal our joy, and did our best to stick to that. You can view our full engagement gallery here.
