New York Winter Getaway
3.5 minute read
Somehow it’s been almost three years since we were in the Catskills. Since traveling somewhere warm was a bit out of the question in 2020 and this year due to travel restrictions, a winter getaway seemed fitting for our 2021 anniversary.
kenoza hall
We like to discover new places to stay and visit, so Kenoza Hall was top of mind for this trip. A brand new hotel and spa part of the Foster Supply Co. Hospitality group. It was definitely a more luxury experience but exactly what we were looking for to relax and recharge.
There were common areas within Kenoza that included a lounge with a fireplace, restaurant, and bar. Of course, standard social distancing and masks were enforced when in common areas. We stayed in the Rooftop Queen that had the best little details. Kenoza was offering a winter spa package at the time of booking and it was totally worth it. Highly recommend booking a spa service with their in-house spa, Hemlock Spa. (Tip: if you stay at any of the Foster Supply hotels, you are able to book at Hemlock Spa which is located on Kenoza’s property.)
We also took advantage of the meal plan at Kenoza Hall. At the time of booking, you’ll have an option to add it. The restaurant in the hotel was so good. (Get the chocolate mousse, you won’t regret it.) It included gratuities which made it really simple to budget and plan. It wasn’t clear at first that gratuities were included at the time of booking, but we clarified with the front desk and they were more than helpful!
Normally we like to venture out when staying somewhere, but Kenoza is literally tucked away so eating onsite was great rather than driving quite a ways for meals. All in all, definitely recommend staying at Kenoza for a couples getaway, girls trip or even solo to recharge!
scenic drives
We did a lot of driving in between shops and our next hotel. The snow and scenes were out of this world. We also got lost a time or two because cell service drops quite often when driving through the mountains! The Catskill Scenic Byway is a great drive, especially in the winter. One of our favorite quick breakfast stops was Phoenicia Diner. A local classic and we went twice because we loved it so much! Some of the main routes we took: Route 28, NY-52 (Kenoza is on this), and NY-214. If you’d like to explore a few other routes, check out this resource for scenic drives in the Catskills.
Here’s a Google Maps version of all the places we stopped for our trip! We stayed at Kenoza Hall first, then drove to Kingston, NY (for some of our favorite shops) before making our way to Scribner’s Lodge. On the way home, we decided to stop at a few shops that made our trip a bit longer but you could always change up the route!
Our last hotel stop was Scribner’s Lodge. This was another great spot for hanging out and relaxing. It is located right next to Hunter Mountain Resort which offers skiing and other winter activities. Scribner’s has a great lobby area with tons of books for children to adults and an awesome fire in the middle of the room. In the winter, they also have an iceskating rink that is complimentary for guests!
We were at Scribner’s for our actual anniversary and kept things pretty low key. There is a restuarant in the lodge, Prospect, that is open to the public and hotel guests but highly recommend making a reservation especially with social distancing practices.
Since we did the fancy dining at Kenoza, we thought it’d be fun to try a local spot for take out one night. Mama’s Boys Burgers is well known in the area and only a six minute drive from the hotel. It was so good. Grab it for a quick bite and enjoy it in the lobby of Scribner’s!
It was a great few days away and we’re looking forward to heading back again to explore even more spots we haven’t gotten to yet. The Catskills are one of our favorite small getaway spots in the Northeast. Feel free to drop your questions or comments below! Thanks for following along!
